How can a central site for learning and remembrance be created and designed to explore the history of colonialism and its continuities? This question is the starting point for a keynote dialogue by Alice Hasters and Khuê Phạm at Prater an der Kastanienallee.

The event reflects the Colonialism remembrance initiative (2025), which was launched by actors mainly stemming from Berlin’s civil society (Erinnerungskonzept Kolonialismus) uniting activist, academic and artistic positions to lay the foundation for a critical engagement with and remembrance of Berlin’s repressed colonial past. Following an introduction by literary scholar and curator Ibou Diop, Alice Hasters and Khuê Phạm will explore questions about various forms, practices and politics of remembrance to spark a dialogue between them. This will be followed by a discussion with guests.

The keynote dialogue is a kick-off event for Remembering Colonialism: From Concept to Site, which takes place on 13 November at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz.

With the writers and journalists Alice Hasters and Khuê Phạm.
