LATIN GALA by Club de Baile

Club de Baile invites you to its first annual LATIN Gala. Inspired by all those formal family celebrations we grew up with – from quinceañera parties and weddings to your uncle’s cumpleaños de 70 at the Salón de Fiestas del Barrio – we come together for a night of dance under the red light of the Roter Salon.

An evening to bring out those shiny shoes, glamorous dresses and salsa suits, and surrender to the zapateo on the parquet of Volksbühne, honouring social dance and celebration as spaces for respite, belonging and connection. The night will open with a Salsa Cubana class hosted by our teacher of the house, Lei, followed by a concert by ROJOMIX and a special collaboration with LITO.

In the dim light and in your most glamorous outfits, dance becomes a place for connection, a sense of belonging, and a much-needed respite from everyday life. Club de Baile is a space for dance, pleasure and intergenerational wellbeing centered around Latin American rhythms. Created from the Latinx LGBTQ++ community, it connects popular Latin American culture and folklore with the queer and experimental Latino art scene of the city and its surroundings. Popular music genres and celebrational dance spaces across South and Central America are deeply heteronormative, and this project wants to see gay romance on the dance floor. Open to everyone, from the Latinx diaspora to the world <3

The night will be immortalised by Inmensidades in our photographic set and hosted by Lara La Transgrosera, who will be joining with the mobile Club de Baile TV, interviewing guests and artists. There will be prizes for the best outfits of the night, best dances of the night, merch, souvenirs and more.

ROJOMIX is a live Latin band bringing the sounds, rhythms and energy of different latitudes of latin america to the Roter Salon. Between cumbia, salsa, merengue, boleros, and more, the band moves effortlessly between dancefloor energy and intimate, soulful moments, making everyone in the room move to the beat of their electroacoustic drum set.

Lito (they) is a trans musical artist and singer from the Caribbean, an explorer of feelings, a teller of stories, a complainer and chaser of soft things. Migrant bird always up for some Rrumba Guapachosa.

Lara La Transgrosera is a performing artist from Chile who has dedicated her life to dance, teaching, dancing, and choreographing. After studying documentary film and LGBTQ+ studies, she moved to Berlin in 2025, where she began writing about dissident lives and hosting different events within our Raras community.

Lei is a Cuban artist who has turned his passion for dance into a career as a dancer and choreographer since 2007, specializing in Cuban rhythms. He studied art and theatre and has developed musical performances rooted in Cuban, folkloric, Caribbean, and Latin American traditions. Since 2021, he has been living in Berlin, where he works as a dancer, choreographer, and dance teacher, and is part of the heart of Club de Baile.
