VOLKSBAD Concerts

On Thursday evening, we're breaking through the waves of the past few weeks at VOLKSBAD. FAYIM blends pop, R&B, soul, gospel, and jazz with personal, political songwriting. LEGION SEVEN brings together storytelling, surreal overshare, and void-pop. An evening between tenderness and turmoil – and above all, one to come together. FAYIM is a Berlin-based singer-songwriter, composer, and performer. His music begins where personal experience becomes political: in questions of identity, desire, vulnerability, relationships, and who gets to tell their own story. On his debut EP Fokus (2025), pop, R&B, soul, gospel, and jazz meet German-language songwriting that repeatedly shifts between self-questioning and self-assertion.

FAYIM doesn’t just sing about himself – he uses his own biography as material. The songs become moments of processing, but equally moments of empowerment. His voice is never merely a vehicle for the lyrics; it becomes a space where intimacy, resistance, and vulnerability overlap. The influence of Black poet and activist May Ayim points towards a practice of self-narration in which personal language also takes on a political position.

As a self-taught artist, FAYIM moves between musical traditions without fully submitting to any one of them. His work explores the possibilities of pop as a space for storytelling: How can a song be both private and collective at the same time? How can a personal story become a shared experience? It is within this tension that FAYIM develops music that is not concerned with clarity or definitive answers, but with presence.

LEGION SEVEN is a storyteller. Their work is a vehicle in refractive departure from the biblical cult rigidity into which they were born. The wreckage of this rigidity, strewn with dream-mythology, science-fiction, chaos-logic and exuberant lies, lays the path on which Seven gains momentum and puts it on display.

Since moving to Berlin in 2021, their hybrid performances have expanded. Alongside performance, Seven works as a composer for media, most recently for the sonic poem nah by Tanasgol Sabbagh and the film From the Dust of this Planet: A Theory Apparatus for the Observer by Rohini Devasher.
